these poems were written between breaths of a scanner
(this introduction was written while scanning illustrations for manual 8)
on august 12, 2010 in monrovia liberia

they represent the creative potential
that computer peripherals offer us through const
ant and repetitive use. Every time a document finished scanning the program is kind enough to give focus to
the folder containing the new image. For the artist, this engenders a ruthless and immediate twinkle.

The first haikus were limited to one scanscpace
Some haikus took two or three scanspaces to complete
Some haikus can be grouped. Traikus, perhaps.
Some are not even haikus, but still they are p
oems.

This process took the best part of a rainy, paid afternoon. Were it not for the haikus, I would have had moments of emptiness. Instead, I unearthed some smal
l bliss beneath florescent bulbs and black plastic.
